Things to see and do in Suzhou
Places to Visit

Humble Administrator’s Garden
China’s largest classical garden (1522), a UNESCO site spanning 5.2 hectares with lotus ponds, zig-zag bridges, and Ming pavilions. Visit at opening to avoid crowds and photograph reflections.

Pingjiang Historic Road
An 800-year-old canal street lined with white walls, stone bridges, and teahouses. Lanterns glow at night; try sugar porridge and watch paper-cutting artisans.

Tiger Hill (Huqiu)
This 1,000-year-old hill features the leaning Yunyan Pagoda (961 CE), Sword Pool legend, and bonsai gardens. Climb for panoramic views and sunset over ancient Suzhou.

Lingering Garden
A UNESCO Ming garden (1593) with artistic rockeries, 700-year-old ginkgo, and crown-like limestone. Smaller and more refined than Humble Administrator’s.

Shantang Street
A 3.8km Tang-era canal street with red lanterns, opera stages, and boat docks. Night food stalls serve osmanthus cake and candied hawthorn.

Master of Nets Garden
This tiny Song-era garden (1140) is a UNESCO gem, especially magical during night tours (Mar–Nov) with guqin music and shadow play under lanterns.
